In the cards? Maaaaaayyyyybe!

We hit up the Wasilla Great Outdoors Expo event this past weekend and actually had a lot of fun for $5. I learned a lot about how to fly fish and Jay learned maybe the color yellow ain't so bad:

Oh and if you didn't see my Facebook post, legit, this is how bright it is at 9:00pm right now....what will we do with all this daylight? I know I drank like 2 more glasses of wine than I intended. Gotta watch out for that and go to bed!

Postin' for the post of it

We had a pretty lazy weekend which is aight cause we're tryin to tighten our belts on frivalous spending anyway, but we still got out and about a little. We got to see the Supermoon, but I'll be honest...it always looks that cool here :-) We're still waitin' to see our first aurora, we'll be sure to have pics then! We got up early today thinking we'd crash the "Great Alaska Outdoor Expo" going on up the street from us...but it turns out it's next weekend. Nice job Jay. So we went for a drive up to Point/Port Mackenzie and walked around. It was in the low 40s (balmy), but still lots of snow around. Jay was a genious yesterday too and when we went for a walk he decided to wear boots with no socks, his heels look like something out of the chainsaw masacre movie. So in the below pics he may look like a cool kid with his flip flops on, but really it's cause he can't wear shoes. Oh no don't worry, the flip flops backfired on him too, he was damn near frost bite by the time we got home (he told me to make fun of him in this blog cause he's been such a train wreck this weekend LOL).
Big iceberg-like chucnks moving wicked fast down this inlet

 Yup, rednecks.

Kind of cool, we're across the bay from Anchorage

Cool kid...very cool, like frost bite cool......

looks like something you can walk out on, but it's a pile of floating ice chunks that will swallow you up like quick sand and then you drown

Hatcher Pass sledding after work

Sure was nice to be in the mountains after a full day of work.  We learned that Amanda is fearless on a plastic sled and that Jay left his balls in the car.  Amanda = 2 runs from the top, Jay = a run from 1/2 way

Amanda has a new car (again)

So this is the 3rd vehicle we have bought in 3 months (2011 GMC, 1997 Suzuki, 2005 Subaru).  Hope that will be all the car shopping we'll be doing for a while.

Iditarod 2011

Today was the start to the Iditarod, the 1049 mile sled dog race.  The sky was blue and the temps were in the high 30's.  We drove into town (4 miles) and got on the free shuttle which took us 35 miles to Willow.  This meant we got to ride on a school bus, pregame on the way there, skip paying for parking or gas, skip the traffic and police.  It was almost like we knew what we were doing.
Look at that crowd.  They call it the Super Bowl of Alaska
Feel the Rhythm. Feel the Rhyme.  Get on up.  It's Dogsled time.  What? Jamaica has a dogsled team?

"What part of Jamaica are you from?"
"Right next to tha beach mon"
We were surprised how many women were in the race.

The World Ice Sculpture Championships!

I got the unique opportunity to fly way up to Fairbanks yesterday for work and I got to do a little touring around too. The World Ice Sculptuer Championships were bing held so I hung out there for as long as I could in -35 degree weather...yikes. And what a surprise there was even some Massachusetts representation..I can't get away from it!!

Erin!! Gaysians!!! I'm not kidding, Japanese gaysians. I really did try to get their face but they were hiding from me lol

 "The Mask" also the winner

"The Knot" by the Finland team
